THE SHORT STORY

I am a lifelong artist, with a background in advertising and fine art. I have 8 years of professional fashion design experience and transitioned into UX/UI 3 years ago. I love designing on the cutting edge of technology, merging my creative skills with user research and testing to create informed, smart design and a simple, delightful user experience.

I’ve most recently worked with Big Squid, a machine learning platform where I designed and launched new features that increased usability and product value. I conducted extensive user research and usability testing to continually evolve the product for a rapidly evolving market.

THE LONG STORY

How did a fashion designer get into UX UI anyway?

After 8 years in the fashion world, I was ready to apply my creativity in a more tech-forward environment and after taking a UX class at General Assembly, completely fell in love with the industry. I really love solving difficult problems with smart design, whether it be a new way to process paperwork or an app that helps you find the best ice cream flavors in your hood. (It's true, I'm an ice cream fanatic.)

So after 8 years in fashion design, what skills did I bring with me to the UX UI world?

Well, design skills for one. Since 2010 I've been designing everything from sunglasses to bras to printed apparel and scarves. I have extensive experience creating production-ready artwork files in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and a textile-specific program called NED Graphics. I've partnered with design directors, fabric designers, product developers, merchants, sales people and buyers to bring my artwork to life and create salable, customer-focused products. Before that I was drawing and painting since age 5 at a local art school in my little beach town in Florida.

What else?

I'm super efficient and have even developed design systems at ThankView and standards of procedures while at ANN, INC. This ensured work was passed from team to team clearly and prioritized properly so we'd meet our deadlines. Before me, designers would verbally pass off print design needs or maybe pass a scribbled note to our team. I developed a simple form that denoted which team the work was for, when it was due, what season it was for and any additional notes. It really streamlined pass offs between teams so nothing fell through the cracks, we got our work done efficiently and were much more productive.

Ok, and?

I'm pretty fun! I really enjoy UX UI design and always want to work hard to get the job done well. I truly believe in "work hard, play hard", although these days "play hard" means snowboarding, surfing, hiking or traveling the globe for good food.
